The Wakaba Dojo is a sub-dojo ("shibu dojo" or training-group) of the Jinenkan Kounryusui Dojo. Classes are taught by Kurt Wullaert (shodan). This shibu dojo operates under supervision of Mario De Mol, who is also a frequent guest-instructor.
This separate dojo in Gent was (originally) founded specifically for children and teenagers.
The minimum-age to join us as a member is seven. If you're younger than 7 then experience has taught us that our trainings are still a bit too difficult to fully comprehend. In this case, try gymnastics or children's judo for a while - both excellent activities to prepare yourself for membership of our dojo later.
A maximum-age is more difficult to determine. Generally speaking (exceptions do exist): if you haven't left high school yet, then you're most probably better off joining our dojo. Adults are most likely better off joining the Kounryusui Dojo. Students (higher education) might try a few classes in both dojo and choose then. It's different for everyone...
Really, if you're not sure what to do, just train in both dojo to learn the differences, and see which group appeals to you more. If you're old enough, possess a minimum of sports experience, and the trainings in the Kounryusui Dojo are to your liking; then don't miss out on the chance to train with Mario De Mol!
The Wakaba Dojo, for several reasons, also welcomes adults of any age. Maybe you don't have any sports experience at all, and you've learned that the Kounryusui Dojo classes are above your current skill-level. Maybe our days and hours of training better fit your schedule. Or, as some of our other members, because you like the option that you - as a parent/guardian - can participate in the same classes as your child(ren).
With the exception of school- and other holidays; we train four times per week. We generally don't start training sankyu (3rd kyu, green belt) straightaway, we have several extra preparatory kyu degrees, to facilitate your training and provide very decent basics.
